Hello Skooter Blog readers. Today I talk about Weather Station with 4 "LCD, Clock, Higrômetro, and Temperature Sensor Internal and External Wireless (4″ LCD Wireless Out/Indoor Weather Station with Clock and Outdoor Temperature Sensor (2*AA)) acquired na DealExtreme, whose buy here has been detailed in the Skooter Blog, so in this article I will talk only about the product.
As you know (or not), I like to be well informed as to temperature and humidity. My second purchase in DealExtreme, still in the year 2008, after buy a pig (the cheapest item) to test the store, was precisely one clock-thermometer-hygrometer I bought. Recently to repeat the purchase of this same clock-thermometer-hygrometer to leave one at work, in a purchase that is still in line to be published.
And the watches-thermometers-hygrometers go very well, thank you. They are very good for those situations where I say “Wow! how hot it is here!” seconds before looking at the thermometer and note that 34 C is really in here. Or at other times, serves to confirm that the relative humidity is very low and it is time to turn on the air conditioner / Humidifier. But there is a situation where a clock-thermometer-hygrometer these does not help, that is when we want to know the temperature outside the home. Of course we can take the thermometer out and wait, but this is not very convenient. Check the outside temperature before leaving home is always good, even to know what clothes to put. In another situation, verify that the computer is really burning up more than it should and that the temperature outside is more pleasant environment; or otherwise in winter: find out there is a lot colder and the computer is keeping the warmer indoor environment.
I know the DealExtreme always had some models thermometer / hygrometer with external sensor, but were wired sensors, what I did not like too, after all I did not want to make a hole in the wall to have a thermometer constantly measuring the outside temperature, even with the windows closed. Until one day I finally was surfing the DealExtreme and found Weather Station with 4 "LCD, Clock, Higrômetro, and Temperature Sensor Internal and External Wireless. This Weather Station solved my problem by having a wireless outdoor sensor. It measures the temperature and transmits to the main unit, showing temperatures and indoor humidity and the outdoor temperature. The external sensor also has an LCD display, then it also functions as a thermometer alone. The main unit also makes Weather, through a barometer. The measured atmospheric pressure values are not shown, it just shows the same forecast, and also an arrow indicating trend. But, the sensitivity of the prediction can be configured 2 a 4hPa (the standard being 3HPA). The prediction is reasonably well. When the Weather Station says it will rain and there are clouds in the sky, usually raining same.
The main unit can receive up signal 3 different external transmitters, but do not ask me where to get additional sensors, because it only comes with a. The main unit is powered by two AA batteries (small), while the wireless transmitter operates on two AAA batteries (stick). The tranmissão is initially made every 8 seconds, and then every 48 seconds. The frequency used for transmissions is in the range of 433MHz, the same used by electronic gates, car alarms and the remote control transmitter of audio transmitters and wireless video, or both 2,4GHz as the 5,8GHz, as transmissions that gigahertz range is just audio and video, because the remote control signal is always in the range of 433 MHz. Fortunately I did not notice interference. Including the transmitter signal Weather Station uses a code to synchronize with the base, so that the base will not take signals from neighboring transmitters that are connected to other main units.
The clock is standard 12 or 24 hours and there is an alarm that I did not even test. The temperatures may be in Celsius or Farenheit. There is also a green light that can be driven to see the LCD panel in the dark. Theoretically, the sensor can be at a distance of up to 100 meters, but being realistic should not exceed a few tens, especially if there are obstacles. Here he is working with a distance of some 10 meters, including two walls and is running smoothly most of the time. Eventually the display of the main unit shows a dash, indicating that did not receive the signal from the transmitter, but soon the outside temperature is shown again (next reading, after 48 seconds).
The manual is in English, and I will show some specifications it back:
- Transmission distance in open field: max 100 meters
- Frequency: 433MHz
- Temperature Range: -40º C a 65º C (shows OLF is out of range)
- Resolution: 0,1° C
- Measurement time interval of the remote sensor: 48 seconds.
- Level of “waterproof”: IPX3 (It also does not have a clue what that is? Then take a look here. Basically means that it can take rain)
- Pressure / Temperature: 48 seconds
- Range of Internal Temperature: -9,9º C a 80º C
- Resolution: 0,1° C
- Humidity measurement range of the air: 20% ~ 99%
- Resolution: 1%
- Air Pressure Measurement Range: 919hPa – 1080hPa
- Resolution / Precision: 0,1hPa / 1,5hPa
- Alarm Duration: 120 seconds
- Base Station: Alkaline batteries 2xAA 1.5V LR6
- Remote Sensor: 2xAAA 1.5V alkaline batteries LR03
- Battery Life: Minimum 12 months to base station / Minimum 24 months for the remote sensor
The manual is for models 1280 and 1281. The model I purchased is the 1281. The 1280 RCC has the most function, that receives and displays the date and time via a radio signal DCF. In Brazil this does not serve for absolutely nothing. In Germany and neighboring countries this function allows the watch to be synchronized with atomic clocks, through a carrier signal 77,5 issued kHz Frankfurt, Germany with 50 kW, reaching 2000km away or more, but never as far away as Brazil. I found pretty cool, pity that there is something here.
And I'm ending here, with a positive recommendation, Article on Weather Station with 4 "LCD, Clock, Higrômetro, and Temperature Sensor Internal and External Wireless (4″ LCD Wireless Out/Indoor Weather Station with Clock and Outdoor Temperature Sensor (2*AA)).
