This Console Sega Genesis (Sega Genesis 1 (Original Model) Console System) was acquired in Amazon U.S., with the package being redirected to Brazil by Shipito. This is the 13th time I use the great services Shipito, Browse other purchases.
Sega Genesis is the name of Genesis in the US. As I mentioned a few times here in Skooter Blog, eu I still have the Mega Drive III Tec Toy of my pre-adolescence, but it was not my first Mega Drive. Some years ago I had a Sega Genesis, the original American model, with the PCB in VA6 version, which eventually sold some years later.
How do I know that the PCB was the VA6 and does it matter? I'll explain. Like me I explained in another article, not all Mega Drive has the same sound, due to revisions of circuit boards and various internal components. Guides have been produced to identify which version of the board of a Mega Drive. And VA6 version is the one with the text “High Definition Graphics” and TMSS (TradeMark Security System). This was also the last version before the review with cost cutting that limou the door EXT (that is designed to receive possible accessories but never had utility), He took the text “High Definition Graphics” and ended up with the worst sound in the exchange of internal components.
The “High Definition Graphics” It is self-explanatory. It is the text that appears in the circle around the cartridge compartment. The change is only aesthetic, but today serves us to identify which are the internal parts of the island, yes these make all the difference. The TMSS It has a device “security” introduced by Sega from the original model with PCB VA6. The islands with this device will show the message “Produced By or Under License From Sega Enterprises Ltd.” when the console is turned on. I remember well my console have this message, as well as has my Mega Drive III, because all my acquaintances who owned Mega Drive at the time had the Japanese model without TMSS and entering the game directly. Some people prefer consoles without TMSS, but for me the Mega Drive was always so, then it is strange to see one that does not display the famous phrase.
The idea of Sega with TMSS was to prevent unlicensed games, by which Sega did not win anything, executassem no Mega Drive. O TMSS procura a string “SEGA” in some game memory locations. Is, the console displays the message and runs the game. If you do not find, the game does not run. This causes few games unlicensed old not run, but never found such games and not see it as a problem, seen that in any way gives to bypass the protection with Mega Everdrive. With the arrival of TMSS, the unlicensed game companies just started to put the string in the places needed. Sega already had it, in which case the strategy of the process was softwarehouses who were not licensed games for violation of copyright. The software house Accolade was then processed this way, but the justice of the United States eventually decided to put the string “SEGA” in the code in order to make the game work is not infringement copyright. So, Sega lost and ended up making a deal where the Accolade became licensed games, and thereafter Sega not sued anyone else and unlicensed games had free way.
Note that devices to prevent unlicensed games still exist, for all other generations to current generations have it. The manufacturers (Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo) sell the console with little or no profit (and launch to a loss) to win after the games. That is the lesson of the Atari. One of the reasons for the crash of video games in the early 80 was that Atari win nothing with unlicensed games, including Activision, founded by talented former Atari programmers, and that ended up making and selling many of the best Atari games 2600, without the Atari received a dime for it. Furthermore, this strategy prevents very bad games are launched or games with inappropriate content that undermine the island image.
But back to Console Sega Genesis, the article on the som do meu Mega Drive III da Tec Toy I mentioned that I would have again one Sega Genesis. Not only by the sound, because then I could have acquired a national or even a Mega Drive Genesis without any box and accessories. But to answer the Question nostalgia and I wanted it to be exactly the model I had as a kid.
For a while I was browsing the eBay and even found some interesting ads, but most was just the console. I found a model with box, accessories and manuals, but price on high. One day I decided to check in Amazon, because there exists the MarketPlace, where several shops and vendors advertise used products. No item Console Sega Genesis (Sega Genesis 1 (Original Model) Console System) you can view various offers, most also only console, maximum with cables and controls. But there the last pages, already discouraging, I found what I was looking for. Here is the original description:
Condition: Used – Very Good
Complete in it’s original BOX!! The original Sonic the Hedgehog Bundle. Comes with it original box with all instruction booklets , 1 original 3 button controller , original RF switch , Original AC Power supply , unsed sega push-on transformer & UHF adapter & Sonic the hedgehog game with its original case with instruction booklet. Everything was tested & cleaned. Box does show some wear in areas. **Gift Quality Item** Fast Shipping with Delivery Confirmation!
The few photos of the ad were on low setting, but they already gave to realize that he was more conserved than the other more expensive ads, both own Amazon as the eBay. And it is exactly the same model I had in my childhood, same box, Sonic same cartridge, same accessories. In the coming days always gave a past in the ad to see if this Sega Genesis was still there, until I decided to buy it before someone else did. Then made the purchase in Amazon with delivery to my address Shipito na California, without state taxes likely to be the seller of another state. The Shipito the package was redespachado to my address in Brazil, via USPS Priority Mail.
After the joy of acquisition, the next joy was to see the message “In transit to RFB – RELEASED WITHOUT TAXATION / BR” no rastreamento. The auditor was comrade and had the good sense not to tax. It would be much tax a dirty old console manufactured more than 20 years.
When the box finally arrived in my hands, I saw that the auditor was comrade but well suspicious. The box was opened by the IRS, who decided to release it without taxation after opening. The description was put clear and specific: “Pre-Owned Sega Genesis Console”. It was the truth and nothing but the truth. If it was a smart guy trying to pass a Playstation 4 by Genesis used would have given this evil. So my advice is do not lie in the description, but only use it wisely, being more general when the product catches the eye and more specific when the idea is to say: “This is a video game, but is used and 20 years ago, not be idiots and let it pass without me having to give 60% to Dilma”.
I opened the outer cardboard box and then found the Sega Genesis box, the “leader of the revolution 16 bits”, with Sonic The Hedgehog cartridge included, to display or fabulous blast processing in all its glory :). The box is reasonable, is not flawless as my Mega Drive III box, but is much better than the box Atari 2600 I acquired recentemente.
The surprise was kept inside the box. Styrofoam is in very good condition. And it was all there: manuals, flyers, and all original accessories. Island very well maintained, I did not find a single scratch. Squeak expansion port (Sega CD), everything intact. Wire all prisoners. All bags. All very clean. I even surprised.

Rear console Sega Genesis> doors EXT, channel selector (3 or 4), RF output and multiple output (/ V, RGB)
The joystick is also in very good condition. Adapters of 75 to 300 ohms and 300 to 75 ohms even been used, are in the original bag. The RF cable and the source are original and are also in perfect condition.
The Sonic The Hedgehog cartridge comes with the console and does not come loose as is usual in such cases, but inside the box as the other games sold separately, subject only to the “Not For Resale” that Sega put both on the box and on the cartridge. O cartucho, the box and the manual are absolutely spotless. Who never know say they have more than 20 years.
After taking pictures and everything was time to call. The connection was made on my CRT TV with RF cable, because this model was accompanied only by this cable. So to the sound / image ended up being the same as I saw in my childhood, albeit unintentionally, at that time, my TV had no input in addition to the RF. Note that o out A / V and RGB SCART out Mega Drive III does not serve this Sega Genesis, because Sega changed the plug when it launched the second model. While the first model uses a DIN plug, the second model uses a mini-DIN plug, then all the cables are different. But already ordered an RGB SCART cable for this Sega Genesis also and he is on the way.
All tested, everything working. And again have the same Sega Genesis console the same model I had in my childhood. 🙂 A única diferença mesmo é que o da minha infância já estava transcodificado para PAL-M quando ganhei. And that uses the original NTSC, in which will remain as today all Brazilian TV also supports NTSC. As for the sound, the next article will be about it. Then wait…
My new old Sega Genesis came out of the small town of Racine, in Wisconsin and across the United States via FedEx to arrive at my address Shipito Hawthorne in California after one week:

And I'm ending here the article about my newest classic Console Sega Genesis (Sega Genesis 1 (Original Model) Console System) with a positive evaluation for NEWWAVEGAMES shop selling at the Market Place Amazon and another positive review for Amazon and the Shipito. Do not forget to share the article with your friends if you like. Good fun and good shopping.
Great sick minds think alike. I told you it had a Genesis II American, caught a national Mega Drive III (with the motherboard sound less horrible), and could not stand and… has two weeks, I took a Japanese Mega Drive the first pro second model. Do not know yet the board revision, but has the “High Definition Graphics” and the “OF Intelligent Terminal”, beyond the written “16-BIT” well big one. Are EXT ago, and also has the TMSS (wish it had not, but okay).
Yeah. When did other item was still in doubt was behind another Mega Drive. I did not think I was exactly find the model I wanted, with better audio, box and accessories. Now quit with Mega Drives. 🙂 Apesar que ainda gostaria de ter um 32X e um Sega CD.
