Psychic World is one of my favorite games on Master System since my childhood. I never have the cartridge, unfortunately, but remember to have it rented several times. The game caught my attention from the beginning, for his introduction to the story told in anime style. My English was not a big deal at the time, but I could reasonably understand the story. The platform style, the variety of weapons, the excellent soundtrack, and good graphics for a console 8 bits consolidated my preference for Psychic World.
The ability to purchase and select weapons during the game reminds me a bit the style adopted by the Mega Man, where for each enemy / phase a weapon can be more or less effective. Unfortunately the exchange of weapons is a bit complicated, made without pause the game and requiring you to press the directional down and the jump button. In the rush is easy to select the wrong, and beyond 5 There are also weapons 4 powers, one takes you back to the start of phase. The idea is to use it if the energies are running out and do not want to lose his life. Thus, I better get back to the beginning of phase and then hunt down the items that restores the energy. The problem, I also have from my childhood, is accidentally touch this button while trying to change weapon or trigger some power. Okay to press pause to change weapon would also be unfeasible, as the pause button Master System is the console and the exchange needs to be constant, then Sega seems to have followed the right path.
Despite the difficulty I managed to finish the game even in my childhood, with the rented cartridge. The secret is to use and abuse the power that gives few seconds of invincibility. This is because, to be hit by an enemy, the game does not give you even a hundredth of invincibility, which is common in other games, then it is easy to see the power of life (H.P) drain all in just one second to bump into an enemy or fall into a lava pit. So prevention is better and go using the power of invincibility in any danger. The ESP energy can be recharged with an item that appears with some frequency, then it is often loses power ESP, even using fairly. Are 5 phases in total, and the end of the game is very interesting and has some surprises.
Recently went only to find that the Psychic World was originally released for the MSX, with the name Psycho World. I knew that the version of Master System reprogramming was made by Sega, after all this is written on the opening screen, but I never went back to know what was the original game system. And many say the original game is even better. Has more phases, and the sound of MSX is greater than the Master System. I wish I could play it, but I could not find it in MESS and not have the patience to look for another emulator. But it is a task that is on the list…
Finally, I leave a little video of Psychic World for those who do not know or want to remember. My intention was to play it from start to finish to this video, so why not the game to be worth more than 20 years. But I ended up bumping into the old problem of power the power to go back to the beginning of phase accidentally. I did it so many times in the third stage that I gave up. Next time.
The video was captured by Elgato - Game Capture HD60. I played in my Sega Genesis with the aid of Mega Everdrive. The optimal definition Full HD is due to the Framemeister XRGB Mini and the SCART RGB cable for Mega Drive 1 / Sega Genesis 1 / Mega Drive 2 by Tec Toy with Stereo Audio (Pack-a-Punched!).
