On the same day I got and installed Fallout 4 for the Playstation 4 (PS4) something happened that I knew was going to happen sooner or later: the Playstation 4 complained that over the original 500 GB HD space. To be able to do the installation, immediately I did was delete some videos of gameplay I had already sent to Youtube. Also uninstalled a few demos of old games and games that probably won't play again so soon, like Fifa 14, After all I already have Fifa 16.
But I knew that sooner or later would be met with either again in full HD, so I set out to get a more definitive solution. With a 2 TB HD I quadriplicaria the original capacity and would have space for another good time. Initially I wanted to find a HD Western Digital, you never gave me problems, What I can't say Seagate. But unfortunately Western Digital does not have a 2 TB HARD DRIVE that fits in the Playstation 4, which only accepts hard drives of up to 9, 5 mm. The 15 mm, as is the case of the Western Digital de 2TB, do not fit.
The way was then choose the Samsung Spinpoint ST2000LM003 2 TB HD, that fits perfectly in the Playstation 4 and has been the choice of the majority of the people, so I googled. A friend of mine also had installed one of these in Playstation 4 It recently, with success. However he opted to buy an external HD from Seagate that came with the Samsung Spinpoint ST2000LM003 inside, taking advantage of then the external case to put the original HD Playstation 4. I threw out this alternative why would somewhat more expensive.
With the Samsung Spinpoint ST2000LM003 2 TB HD purchased and delivered, the time has come to do the replacement. I've had experience with HD Exchange Playstation 3, because overrides the original HD, 80 GB, for a 500 GB in 2010. Sony eased enough to exchange for HD in Playstation 4, so just remove the black cover piano, that is only docked, and we already have access to a drawer with HD. There is a single screw that needs to be removed, and it is quite different from the others, because it is the largest, is the only one that can be removed with a screwdriver common, and has the 4 symbols of the 4 joystick buttons. Removing the drawer 4 screws, also the Philips type, securing the HD. Just take a, put the other, put the Drawer back, screw, and close the cover.
What it takes is the backup and restore of data. I chose to back up everything so you don't have to download or install anything new. The first problem is that the Playstation 4 only accepts FAT32 partitions, and most external HDs come with NTFS partition. I used then the Minitool Partition Wizard Free Edition 9.1 to resize an NTFS partition on a 2 TB external HD, leaving 500 GB unallocated, to then create a FAT32 partition in this space, just to back up all data on the Playstation 4. On the same partition has also put the Playstation firmware 4 to make the installation after the exchange of the HDs.
I connected so the external HD into a USB port on the Playstation 4 and he was recognized. As there was still the NTFS partition, He gave an error message, but just ignore it. I started so the backup process that took about 5 or 6 hours to complete. This is the most time consuming.
Finished the backup, then did the exchange of HDs in Playstation 4, quick process that takes less than 10 minutes. Swapped in 7 minutes because I was taking pictures of the process, otherwise do not take 5.
Made the exchange of HDs, It's time to call the Playstation 4 and install the firmware that I had already put in external HD, what takes only minutes. With the firmware installed, the time has come to restore the backup, process that took a little less than 3 hours. At the end I got a total of 1,77 TB of HD, being 1, free 39TB.
Are 12 days since installation and so far everything is going well, I hope that the Samsung Spinpoint ST2000LM003 2 TB HD is reliable and lasts for many years.
