In this article I talk about the Smart Watch Xiaomi Huami Amazfit Pace modelo A1612 Original, acquired on GearBest.
When I met the Smart Watch Xiaomi Huami Amazfit Pace modelo A1612 Original, I realized he would be ideal for me, because it has all the features of Mi Band 2 and many other.
And the main, It has a screen that stays on all the time, so that there is no need to push buttons or make movements just to tell time. With Mi Band 2 I was getting a weird habit of touching the bracelet on your Chin to see the time when I was with the right hand busy, since making the move to see the hours were longer and eventually failed.
It is clear that the cost is not the same. While Mi Band 2 costs in the range of $20 ~ 30, the Amazfit Pace costs in the range of $ 100. Nevertheless, is a great price when compared with Smart watches with similar functions.
I read some reviews and I was dating Amazfit Pace for a while, and after a few weeks I decided to take advantage of a promotion and purchase it.
The purchase was made in GearBest, because Amazfit Pace I was at the best price out there. The price was $ 104,49, that was reduced to $ 102,01 using the points accumulated in previous purchases. I chose the registered shipping by mail from Holland, It has no additional cost and has little chance to be taxed. Request made in 25/07/2017, arrived in 23/08/2017, less than a month in transit. Great!

Unboxing and initial tests
The Amazfit Pace came properly sealed in a plastic and sturdy cardboard box, so that wasn't damaged during transportation. By pressing the side button he started the boot. In the box also comes instruction manual, USB cable and the charging cradle.
Check out the video of the unboxing:
And also see some pictures:
The Amazfit Pace came with load, so you could try him immediately. It connects to the phone via Bluetooth, and this Protocol is used for synchronizing the clock information with the phone, as well as to pass information from the phone to the clock (current time, notifications, etc.).
Curiously, the Amazfit Pace also has WiFi, that is used to make firmware updates. WiFi settings, How to choose the access point, password, etc. are made via mobile phone.
As soon as I plugged it, He has already asked to do a firmware update, to version 1.3.3 the. As I write this article, He's already in version 1.3.5.
At the bottom, the Amazfit Pace got the heart rate sensor and the contacts for the USB connection, He also makes the recharge.
After firmware update, He does an optimization of applications, as an Android system.
Then, I took a look at some of the functions of the Amazfit Pace: weather forecast, counting steps, compass, Stopwatch, heart rate sensor, activity monitoring, GPS, among others.
Also check out the video I made giving a paced by features of Amazfit Pace:
The Amazfit Pace
As I've mentioned earlier, for me the great advantage of Amazfit Pace is the screen that is visible all the time, without needing backlight. Note that she has the backlight and he lights up when pressing the button, or do the typical movement view the hours. But it is not necessary to see the screen, Since there is no lighting in the environment. In the daylight it is perfect. And with artificial light also works well. The backlight only is mandatory even in the dark.
I think this issue of having the screen visible at any time is paramount in a watch. The idea of a smart watch is adding many features to good old wristwatch, but it is essential that he does not miss your most basic function, that is to show the hours at all times. At this point the Amazfit Pace surpasses the expensive Apple Watch, that custa 10 times more expensive and keep the screen erased most of the time.
The Amazfit Watch – Part 1
As I've mentioned, the Amazfit Pace does everything that the Mi Band 2 It's been, How to count steps, monitor sleep, heart rate monitor, send notifications, alarms, etc. There are only two items in the Mi Band 2 take advantage: be more lightweight and comfortable, and use the application E Fit.
Although Huami and Xiaomi being the same company, and despite the E Fit to count with an option to pair a Amazfit Pace, in reality the application that synchronizes and manages the Amazfit Pace is Amazfit Watch. When I saw the option to synchronize the Amazfit Pace on the E Fit I even imagined he was already compatible with the clock. But in reality what he does is to call the other application.
And why the E Fit better? For several reasons: He had all of my history with the MI Band 1S and to Mi Band 2 it. It synchronizes with the Google Fit. And for those who have other devices Xiaomi, as Mi Scale (I have and I will do an article about it soon), is inconvenient not having all data in one place. The Mi Band Tools also is not compatible with the Amazfit Pace.
But Amazfit Watch It's not a bad application. It synchronizes the physical activities with the Strava, What is pretty cool. As or Amazfit Pace has GPS, You can do activities without having to take the cell phone, and then just sync it. The data exported to the Strava worth including to count points on the Hearbit / Move More, something that is not always possible with imported data.
The Chinese version of Amazfit Watch to allow synchronization with the E Fit, However she does not synchronize with the Strava and you have to install it on the outside (directly with the .APK, without being by Google Play). There is a workaround that involves first install the Chinese version and then the international and maintain synchronization with both the E Fit and the Strava, but I didn't want to do, not to run the risk of losing the data already collected. I hope that the international version incorporates soon sync with functionality E Fit. The recent international versions have incorporated features that appeared first in Chinese version, so there's hope.
I'm going to talk about the Amazfit Watch later, because I want to show all the statistics that it does, but before that, Let's talk about the activities and monitoring of the applications Amazfit Pace.
Activities and Applications
The Amazfit Pace can monitor several types of activity, including hiking, races, bike, climbing, trails, elliptical workouts and other activities. Activities indoor can also be monitored.
The Amazfit Pace account with a proprietary operating system. Therefore, Unlike in the US Android Apple Watch and Wear, Unable to install additional applications. It comes with its own internal applications. The user can disable those you don't want to use, se for o caso. I'm going to talk about each one of them, the original order in which they appear on the screen.
The first one is the weather forecast. It automatically detects the location and pulls the data time and temperature of the current day and the next four days.
Then comes an application that shows a summary of the steps taken in the day. It shows graphics that let you see more activity schedules. You can also view the weekly statistics, Calories Burned, monitored activities, among others. Many statistics can be seen in the own clock, In addition to the application Amazfit Watch.
The following is the application that makes the heart rate monitoring. You can even activate the continuous heart rate mediation. At first I thought this would end with the battery in no time, but not noticed significant impact. The clock is also smart enough not to keep the monitor on all the time. Instead he is connecting/disconnecting periodically, collecting enough samples to make good stats. It is also possible to make an immediate heart rate measurement.
The next application is the music. The Amazfit Pace has internal space to store songs, that can be transferred via USB cable. Thus, with Bluetooth headphones you can hear music through it, even if the phone has not been taken during activity. As I always take the phone and hear songs by Deezer, just not testing this function.
Then comes an alarm. You can schedule multiple times, repetitions, etc. Unfortunately the smart alarm feature that was edited down from Mi Band also not present in the Amazfit Pace.
The next application is a compass. Simple and functional. Points North and shows the rotation that we're against it. A touch on the screen and we have access to latitude, longitude, altitude and air pressure.
Then we have a timer. Also simple and functional: Starts, to, count laps.
The following application shows the sleep data. He differentiates heavy sleeper and a light sleeper, and times when the user was agreed. Two taps on the screen and we have historic data.
Por fim, the last application is the training center. It is possible to make daily training plans. I didn't use this function, so I don't have much to comment about her.
In the settings you can mute the Amazfit Pace, put it in airplane mode, control the brightness of the backlight (I leave on automatic), Configure a range of time at which it is silent, time format (12/24hs), WiFi and Bluetooth settings, upload data, Exchange of watchface, checking for updates, among others. There is also a function to find the lost cell phone, simply triggers it to get it to play.
With so many functions, with screen visible all the time, with continuous monitoring of heart rate, etc. You can imagine that the battery of the Amazfit Pace tough little. But in this aspect it also surprises. The battery in my Amazfit Pace comes lasting about of 4 days, with continuous monitoring of heart rate, notifications of Telegram, Whatsapp, SMS, and various other applications, and about half an hour to 1 hour of daily exercise with GPS connected. Is an excellent duration. Does not compete with the Mi Band, of course, but it hits the Apple Watch.
I read in some specifications that the screen of the Amazfit Pace has 1,34 inch and 320 resolution×300 pixels. I don't know exactly how they calculated that a round screen resolution, Maybe it's in the horizontal and vertical axis. But in practice I can say that the resolution of the clock is good and nothing is pixelated.
And it is from this screen that the clock can be customized to the user's taste. While in a common watch we're stuck to “face” defined by the manufacturer, us Smart watches We can select the watchface with which we identify. Like pointers? There are options with pointers. Like digital? Also has. The two together? Also. Like something minimalistic, only with the time? Has. Want lots of information? It also. Want to put a custom background picture? Can also. Flat bottom or all designed? You choose.
As watchfaces has two versions: one that can use all colors, high definition video and animations; and another that uses fewer colors, less definition and is static. The first appears when the backlight is linked, and the other is the one that is visible in the rest of the time. For example, in watchface standard, Marathon Life, the seconds appear in the first version. In other, the two dots between hour and minute Flash in the first version. This feature certainly exists to conserve battery power.
After some use I found out that my watchface ideal must meet the following requirements:
- The largest possible amount of information. As the screen is great, I think it's a waste to look at her and not have everything there.
- All numbers in white. White is the color more visible when the backlight is off. Leave blank numbers ensures that they can be viewed even in low-light environments. Red and blue tend to be more deleted.
The watchfaces that came with the Amazfit Pace, no let me fully satisfied. A Marathon Life is the one that brings more information: battery charge, at “odometer”, the distance travelled in exercises, data, day of the week, time, steps taken, and purpose of steps. But it shows the minutes in red and the battery charge in blue.
A watchface Sprint It was my second option, with all that matter in white. And it is possible to choose the information that will appear on the screen. But, In addition to the time she only lets you choose four more information, in other words, will always miss something.
It was then that I discovered a site with many watchfaces for download and even a watchfaces. Simply download the watchface favorite and put it in the Amazfit Pace to be able to use. I tested several and I liked most was the Target. She brings all the information useful in white, shows the day of the week, data, heart rate, battery, time, steps, calories, and temperature. She was my choice for some time.
But, observing the community posts, I noticed that there was a watchface new native, call Prototype Source, that seemed perfect. Unfortunately, she was only available on Chinese ROM. You couldn't simply low it anywhere. I was a bit disappointed, but soon she appeared in international version, getting available after firmware update.
A Prototype Source also shows all relevant information in white, and adds large amount of information. She shows:
- the battery charge, numerically and graphically;
- the distance traveled on the day exercises (walk, race, bike);
- full date, with day, month and year;
- day of the week;
- steps taken in the day;
- time, with beautiful Fountain, large numbers and the two flashing dots (in the animated version);
- calories burned in a day;
- temperatura, obtida online, não há sensor de temperatura no relógio;
- quantidade de pisos escalados no dia, bom para quem sobe escadas todo dia;
- odometer, que é o total de distância percorrida desde o primeiro uso, conta apenas os exercícios monitorados;
- heart rate.
Veja como ficou meu Amazfit Pace with Prototype Source (note que ele agora está com película e há um risquinho nela):
E assim, a Prototype Source virou minha watchface preferida e é a que eu uso no dia a dia. Meu odômetro já indica 470,3 Km, at the time of writing this article. 🙂
The Amazfit Watch – Part 2

Going back to the home screen. Let's take a look at data from continuous monitoring of heart rate. In the bar we have in purple lower frequencies, When I'm asleep, in green and yellow have the highest frequencies, When I'm exercising.
In summary we have the average day, the average home, the maximum and minimum. You can also view a line graph of the average daily heart rate. For each day we can also see the Division in heart rate zones: anaeróbica, Aerobics, fat burning, rest and sleep.
