[Review] Aspheric contact lenses Coopervision Frequency 55 Aspheric + Contact lens case – ACLens

In this article I talk about Aspheric contact lenses Coopervision Frequency 55 Aspheric and an Amcon contact lenses Kit Horses, all they purchased na ACLens, directly from the U.S.. I've been buying my contact lenses at AC Lens since 2010.

Motivation – Aspherical Lenses

On my last visit to an ophthalmologist, which I already reported in Article on my last eyeglasses Lens 1.67 Super thin and sunglasses with Degree, also talked to him about contact lenses.

I reported that my eyes no longer accept contact lenses as accepted in ancient times. Today they annoy me more, I can feel them more often, especially if you're sleepy.

He told me that this is normal, that with age the eyes are no longer so well naturally lubricated. He even gave me a eye drops, the Systane UL, that I showed here in Skooter Blog, that anyone can use, with both contact lenses as without them.

But he also said that for my prescription I could use aspherical lenses, they are much cheaper that the toric, you wouldn't have to keep ordering (has for prompt delivery) and correct until -0,75 astigmatism. With them I could still use the same degree in both eyes: -3,50.

I was a bit suspicious, but leaving the query I would spend with the Secretaries again to ask about the such lenses. But the Secretary's attendance is so bad, dropped me off there waiting even without being given no one, I have just given up and left.

Arriving home, I went looking for more information on aspherical lenses and saw that the reality could not be as colorful as the ophthalmologist painted. There are actually some propaganda claiming that aspherical lenses correct until -0,75 astigmatism, but others are more measured and just say that lenses can be used by those who have to -0,75 you don't get in the way of visual acuity.

For that last sentence I already understand that astigmatism will not be fixed. And who has less than -0,75 not much choice with contact lenses anyway, Since the start of astigmatism correction toric in -0,75.

At the Aspheric contact lenses Coopervision Frequency 55 Aspheric, in particular, the Coopervision nor claims anything about astigmatism. But on the website of the ACLens now it appears that information that they offer to fix -0,75 astigmatism.

The listed on the website of the ACLens and the Coopervision is that “Aspheric contact lenses CooperVision Frequency ® 55 offer improved quality of vision, by focusing light on a common focal point at the back of the eye, instead of a general area. The aspherical design offers greater image resolution and greater depth of focus. With the Frequency 55 aspheric, You'll enjoy a sharper vision and needs, In addition to comfort, easy handling and strong performance.”

An article in The Vision Care Institute is also less encouraging, and cites a scientific work (“Inefficacy of aspheric soft contact lenses for the correction of low levels of astigmatism“) Comparing aspherical lenses and astigmatism correction toric and emphasizes your ineffectiveness.

Technically aspherical lenses are designed to eliminate the spherical aberration of the common lenses, and can also reduce other optical aberrations compared to common spherical lenses. But as it becomes reality in the existing products is difficult to assess.

Ultimately, the subject seems to be somewhat controversial even among experts, so I figured I'd pay to see in practice if aspherical lenses would be taken care of and I could let go of toric lenses.

Choice of Coopervision Frequency 55 Aspheric and degrees

The choice through the lens Aspheric contact lenses Coopervision Frequency 55 Aspheric took place for a few reasons:

  1. They are aspherical, as the eye doctor had recommended to compensate until -0,75 astigmatism.
  2. They have base curve 8,7. When I asked about the base curve he just looked at my eyes in a certain direction and said that my base curve is “normal”, in other words, 8,7.
  3. Disposable lenses are monthly usage, It seems to me the perfect time.
  4. They are the Coopervision. The same brand I've been using for more than 10 years. The latest that I was using were the Toric Now.

The eye doctor had indicated -3,50 in both eyes, but watching my prescription glasses I got one foot out the door. This is the prescription glasses:

Spherical Cylindrical Axis
Constant Use Right Eye -4,00 -0,50 150º
Left Eye -3,50 -1,00 180º

The conversion of prescription glasses for contact lenses spherical prescription is also somewhat controversial, but the general rule is to use the spherical degree + half of the cylindrical degree. That makes sense, whereas the cylindrical degree actually adds to the ball at one edge of the lens and is null in the other edge, According to the established axis. Following the rule, We have the best vision in the center of the eye, What makes sense.

Give way, under rule I need spherical lenses -4,25 and -4,00, respectively. I suppose the same rule applies to aspheric lenses. Then -3,50 It seemed little.

Ah Sim, There is also the question of whether to convert prescription glasses for contact lenses should take into consideration that the contact lens is next to the eye, so there's a certain difference. There are some conversion tables, as the own Coopervision.

By converting the Coopervision, -4,00 becomes -3,82 and -3,5 becomes -3,36. And the closest commercial values become -3,75 and -3,25. Add here the degree cylindrical and have -4,00 for the right eye and -3,75 for the left eye.

When in doubt, and whereas the freight costs half the price of a box of Aspheric contact lenses Coopervision Frequency 55 Aspheric, I ended up buying two boxes, a -3,50 and another of -4,00. Professional's prescription and my prescription of curious.

The Contact lens case

In 2012 I had bought a leather case to store my contact lenses, avoiding leaving the plastic pillbox directly in your Pocket, filling with hairs of clothing that ended up in the eye if I don't take care. In addition he has a hand mirror for eventualities.

Calligraphy set that lasted a long time, but eventually the zipper broke and stopped using it. I decided I would take such a request to buy a new, This time I chose the Amcon contact lenses Kit Horses. There several other models with different designs, but the horses was among the cheapest. I liked him, so was he chosen.

A ACLens maintains the same pattern after all these years. The lenses came in sealed boxes, as usual and a pillbox of lenses of the store comes as toast.

The calligraphy set that I bought has your own calligraphy set of individual lenses and has a mirror on the inside too. Note that only this pillbox the lens that came with it fits within it. I tried to put the calligraphy set. ACLens and one of Alcon, that comes with the Opti-Free, but they do not fit.

Testing the lenses Coopervision Frequency 55 Aspheric

In my first test with the Aspheric contact lenses Coopervision Frequency 55 Aspheric showed that they are comfortable, more that the toric as I expected. But the business to compensate for astigmatism really is legend. Ok, I know I have -1,00 of astigmatism in left eye, and that's more than the -0,75 the aspherical lens elements supposedly correct, yet, I don't buy it.

First I tested the prescription optician: -3,50 in both eyes. Also tested -4,00 the right eye and -3,50 in the left eye. And finally tested -4,00 in both eyes. What was better was -4,00 in both eyes. My amateur prescription fared better than the ophthalmologist.

No configuration gave me a perfect view. All left a little to be desired. Toric lenses are still those that give the best vision. But to use “socially” aspherical lenses -4,00 seemed acceptable. Couldn't even play video games and use the computer with them without difficulty of reading, something that I've been having a hard time when I stopped using spherical lenses to use toric lenses.

Final Considerations

Apparently no day contact lens in my eyes practically unnoticed, as was the case when I was a teenager. And as I mentioned, the ophthalmologist considers it normal, with age the eyes are no longer so well naturally lubricated. And prescribed an eyedrop, the Systane UL, that I showed here in Skooter Blog, for use with both contact lenses as without them.

That said, as Aspheric contact lenses Coopervision Frequency 55 Aspheric are more comfortable that toric lenses, no need to take some time to stabilize, don't have a thicker edge to keep the correct axis, and are cheaper. On the other hand, the vision is not perfect as in toric lenses, even if it does not affect visual acuity in order to have a functional vision (20/20). Unfortunately you can't have the best of both worlds.

Of course, all of this applies to me and to my prescription. Who has a minor astigmatism may not know the difference between spherical/aspherical lenses and toric. And who has an astigmatism biggest may find that the spherical/aspherical lenses do not provide an acceptable vision.

If aspherical lenses make a difference with respect to spherical? Hard to say, do not use the spherical. Would need to retest spherical lenses to see if I notice any difference, both the astigmatism and other benefits that supposedly offers aspherical lens.

Regarding Amcon contact lenses Kit Horses, I decided to leave him with your internal pillbox filled with Opti-Free only to take with me and have a place to put the lenses in case you need to remove them in any event. But at home I put the lenses in another pillbox (the AC Lens or Alcon), can I change periodically, preserving that internal calligraphy set is the only one that fits in the Amcon Horses.

And I'm ending here with another very positive recommendation to the store AC Lens. Share this article with your friends if you liked. If you also want to shop for contact lenses in AC Lens, directly from the U.S., click here and good shopping.
