[Review] 2º Super Nintendo Original NTSC PCB SHVC-CPU-01 CPU/PPU1/PPU2 2/1/3

The Super Nintendo I show in this article is another copy of the American model, original NTSC (without ever having been transcoded to PAL-M), with the printed circuit board SHVC-CPU-01, e chips CPU, PPU1 and PPU2 versions 2, 1, and 3, respectively. The island is practically new, no chipped or cracked in plastic and even with no signs of yellowing, which is quite rare in Super Nintendo, especially in SHVC-CPU-01, who are older.

SHVC-CPU-01 is the first model of PCB, which had a discrete audio card. Because of that this Super Nintendo model is considered to have the best sound. This sound card is integrated into the motherboard to future versions to cut costs.

This Super Nintendo has the latest versions (2/1/3) the three main chips: CPU, PPU1 is PPU2, respectively. After that there were other updates, including integrating the three chips in one, the revisions known as 1chip, but the version numbers were not changed, and always remained as 2/1/3.

This Super Nintendo was acquired in eBay, and shaft Frisco, city located in the state of Texas, USA. I used again the parcel forwarding services Direct Shipments, offering redirection service orders and It has been evaluated here at Skooter Blog. It was the sixth time I used the services of Direct Shipments.

Motivation

This article can be seen as a continuation of the two preceding articles, in which I talked about buying other two consoles Super Nintendo. Therefore strongly recommend reading both before continuing:

  1. [Review] Super Nintendo Original NTSC PCB SHVC-CPU-01 CPU/PPU1/PPU2 1/1/1
  2. [Review] Super Nintendo Original NTSC PCB SHVC-CPU-01 CPU/PPU1/PPU2 2/1/3

After the acquisition of these islands I kept being notified daily by eBay about new listings that met the search criteria I set and chose to be notified. Just not disabling this daily notification that I had set up and always gave a look at the islands that appeared. Most had some kind of crack or chipped, and almost all with yellowing caused by time.

But one day a console that looked new, without any cracked or chipped, and without any sign of yellowing.

The announcement made no mention of card or chip version, but the console features (button “EJECT” painted, four rubber feet, etiqueta do FCC, etc.) I've realized it is-a-CPU SHVC-01. The serial number, UN16376733, indicating it is a likely 2/1/3.

While accepting offers, the seller was asking for a price somewhat high, up from $ 100. So I kept my eye on the ad, but I not speak out.

The announcement of the Super Nintendo

The eBay ad for this console is still available at the time of writing this article, but should disappear soon, so I saved the pictures so that you could know exactly what I saw in the ad before purchasing. Check out:

As can be seen in the pictures, the island is very well maintained, no cracked or broken, and strangely plastic does not yellow with time as often happens.

The console was accompanied by two original controllers, power supply, cabo RF, e cabo A/V, everything seemed in perfect condition. Just did not like the way the wires were wrapped and not those hideous stretch that over time melt and all emporcalham. But despite that the cables also seemed to be in perfect condition.

There was no box, manuals and cartridge. But no problems for me, because I already have all this very well kept from my childhood, the same console model. And there is no serial number on the box.

The purchase of the Super Nintendo

Over the weeks the seller was lowered slightly the price, and even made an offer to the members of the eBay who were watching the ad: US$ 80,00.

I did not answer the offer, but a few days later I decided to make an offer. After some offers and counter-offers it became clear that the minimum price the seller would was US $ 75,00.

I then asked the seller if he had made some process retrobright no console. This procedure removes the yellow island, but it does not help much because the plastic one day was already yellowed remains brittle.

The seller replied that never made a retrobright process and that this was the original color, probably because he kept the island in one of those vacuum storage bags. He also said that before pouring it on sale led him to a games shop to be cleaned inside and tested, because he wanted someone who knew what he was doing to clean it. He said he could not open it and take good care of their stuff.

Ok, he convinced me and so I did the offer of US $ 75,00, including shipping within the US. He accepted and so I got the console.

again eBay into trouble with payment. I believe that once again due to the billing address is in Brazil and the shipping in the US. I contacted the seller and he agreed that I pay via PayPal, and so it all worked out. In other purchase the seller canceled the sale in eBay and proceeded only via PayPal. But the seller marked the product as paid in eBay manually and continued there even.

Redirect to Direct Shipments

The seller sent the package to the Texas headquarters Direct Shipments in California using UPS carrier. When the box arrived in Direct Shipments, the weight was measured 5 pounds and 7 oz, only one ounce more than the last Super Nintendo, which should be by R.F cable bill. the other had not.

A Direct Shipments He sent me two photos, an UPS label on the box and this:

Picture of my Super Nintendo, taken by the Direct Shipping.

Picture of my Super Nintendo, taken by the Direct Shipping.

Knowing that if sent via USPS Priority eventually taxed again, this time I asked for Direct Shipments separating contents of the box into two packets, with up 4 pounds and the other with up to 2 pounds, and send both by ePacket. This was done. I never ask what was put in each package, since I left their discretion, but he knew that the heavier was the one with the console, after all it weighs more than 2 pounds.

The total cost of sending two packages over the services of Direct Shipments was $ 70,00, which is even a little cheaper than if I had sent a single packet USPS Priority.

The packages were sent together, but eventually they split on the way and arrived with a difference of two business days (four consecutive days). Both were for customs clearance in Curitiba and both were released without taxation. Definitely worth the feathers divide the content into two packages.

Unboxing and Tests

The first packet that arrived was the 4 pounds. It's a cardboard box USPS, do Priority Mail, but endcapped with black plastic. Again came the crumpled box, indicating that the Post Office dropped or threw the box on the floor. It is the hallmark of them.

The CN22 form filled came as ordered, the description “Videogame Parts” and the value of $ 30,00. Note that this is a true description, to avoid problems if the IRS wanted to check the content. The package was not taxed.

Inside the box was the console, o cabo A/V e o cabo R.F., all involved in individual bubble wrap, as I asked the seller to. He was economical means in bubble wrap, but there was no damage to the console or to the cables.

Both the console as the accessories were in good condition, as shown in the pictures Ad, needing only a good cleaning. The latches that prevent the use of the Super Famicom cartridges were not removed, which is great. It was so even if I wanted, all original!

I took the source and driver of another Super Nintendo to make the first tests. With the SD2SNES I could confirm that it really is a 2/1/3. Then did a quick test burn-in to see if it was right. Later I leave the same test running some more 12 hours to make sure. also tested the driver inputs, to see if everything was in order.

Por fim, cartridges tested with and without the CIC chip to make sure that the console CIC chip was intact. The CIC without cartridge did not work, which indicates that the console is with the chip intact CIC, in other words, locked, the way I wanted.

The next step was to open the console to see how it was inside. I had a great surprise to see that everything was perfect inside. No sign of oxidation, no sign that would have been moved. There was only enough dust inside the console, and even hair. If the seller really took in a shop to clean the console, They wrapped it… or that he wrapped me. But worrying anything and everything properly removed with a Mastersux air blaster.

Note that there is no single quebradinho in housing. I notice that those latches and quebradinhos that are common in the Super Nintendo are associated with plastic yellowing. When it gets brittle yellow, so I think solutions like retrobright They are ineffective.

Looking more closely I noticed the absence of the capacitor C67, as I expected. Nintendo stopped to put that capacitor to cut costs, sometime between the production of 2/1/2 and the 2/1/3. It does lack long as you use the original power supply. I noticed also that the capacitors seem to be all intact, oxidation without any signal at its terminals.

Removing the metal shield could see that everything is beautiful and nothing moved on the board. NTSC crystal oscillator with the inscription D214J2 (X1). variable capacitor (TC1) also intact.

A close look at the main chips show CPU: “Nintendo S-CPU 5A22-02 2JF 9K”. na PPU1: “Nintendo S-PPU1 5C77-01 2JV 52”, and PPU2: “Nintendo S-PPU2 5C78-03 2JV 9P”. Note that versions hit with 2/1/3 extracted by software.

Also intact were the encoder, the crystal oscillator, the variable capacitor, and CIC. That's nice and impossible to see in detail Super Nintendo acquired in Brazil, who are mutilated to be transcoded to PAL-M and unlocked.

With everything in order and clean inside, It was time for cleaning the Super Nintendo out. Check out how he got:

also cleaned the R.F cable. and the cable A / V. Check then how were 3 items of the first packet after cleaning:

I then made burn-in test over 12 hours with the console to make sure that everything was in order with him.

Teste de burn-in do Super Nintendo.

Teste de burn-in do Super Nintendo.

Inside the package were both controllers and power supply. I tested them all and all was in order.

After the test, I did cleaning the source and controllers, who were also quite dirty. One of the controllers have a scratch on the front. Except that are in perfect condition.

Separate the US and assembled in Brazil, the console and its accessories are now all together and limpinhos, then we'll take some pictures of the meeting.

Missing is a final test, it was the new Super Nintendo in Sony XBR 4K TV-55X905E, using the RGB outputs of the console connected to the Framemeister, to make sure that these outlets were in perfect working order.

Unboxing and Testing Video

The unboxing and testing this Super Nintendo are also available on video, the new format I was testing. but gave up, because apparently did not please. Anyway, comments, criticism and suggestions are welcome.

Final Considerations

Este Super Nintendo Original NTSC PCB SHVC-CPU-01 CPU/PPU1/PPU2 2/1/3 It is certainly the best I have gained so far, with housing in perfect condition, without latches and even without yellowing. The circuit board is also perfect, without oxidation, nothing moved. So now I stopped with Super Nintendo, this is my Super Nintendo final.

I'm still in doubt on how to guard it. For now he is on my CRT TV, installed and ready to use, inside the closed cabinet and covered with cover. But, I wonder if he really does not yellow because the former owner kept him in a vacuum storage bag. In that case I probably should therefore guard it too, to prevent the yellowing process start, even taking the practicality of using it.

On the other hand, It may be that this particular batch plastic has a composition somewhat different, and that is the reason for the non-yellowing, after all there are Super Nintendo the same time that only yellowed the top or only the bottom. There are even some that only the part that has yellowed the door controllers. So it's entirely possible that some have been rewarded with all parties not yellow. Ultimately, I do not know what to do…

Also not yet know if I will sell my other Super Nintendo 2/1/3 or keep it, especially because this case would have to choose with which well get accessories, since that Super Nintendo controllers are not necessarily those who are in better condition, and do not really like “desparear” consoles and accessories.

In terms of cost, the best console out just at the best price, due to have escaped taxes. Foram US$ 145,00 no total, incluindo console e frete.

Very good. Congratulations on your purchase. So this is the third Super Nintendo you bought to make up for the void that was with him that the coach or Post broke. It is working or the disappointment is still great for SNES childhood what you missed?
