[Review] Doppler Fetal Cofoe: Baby Ultrasound Heart Rate Detector – AliExpress

The Doppler Fetal Cofoe, JPD-100A model, is a heart rate detector for babies using ultrasound, during pregnancy. It was acquired on AliExpress, shop BestCaring Store, by R 110,86, including freight. Arrived 19 days and was not taxed.

Motivation and Choice of Doppler Fetal Cofoe

In Brazil, this equipment is sold at much higher prices, and they are almost all Chinese brands, in other words, buying straight from AliExpress the intermediary is eliminated. Even the same device I purchased is being sold at twice the price (R$ 220,70) in a Brazilian store, at the time of writing this article.

The only brand I recognized when searching stores in Brazil was G-Tech. I do not recommend this brand because I already had two humidifiers and both gave the same leakage problem after some time of use. Furthermore, the G-Tech device does not have a display to show the heart rate, you can only hear the beats through a headset.

Chose the Doppler Fetal da Cofoe apparently being the best seller in AliExpress. A BestCaring Store have more than 2.000 ad sales and more than 800 reviews, most of them very positive.

Unboxing and Tests

The Doppler Fetal Cofoe just arrived 3 weeks. It took less time to come from China to Brazil than to come from Curitiba to the interior of São Paulo, showing once again that the inefficiency of the Post Office and the Internal Revenue Service is what most hinders. The package was not taxed.

The product came well packed in its sturdy cardboard packaging and with foams. The box, by sua time, was placed in a bubble envelope. The box came with a dent in the corner, probably some drop due to the mistreatment of the post office, but the product was intact, for being well protected by foams.

The Doppler Fetal Cofoe works with two AA batteries. I used two rechargeable batteries and it turned on and it worked perfectly. The instruction manual is all in Chinese, but the basic operation is simple: the middle button is used to turn the equipment on and off and the one on the right is used to turn the LCD lighting on and off. Only the button on the left I needed to consult the manual (with the aid of Google translator) to understand: it serves to select the modes 1, 2 or 3. The mode 1 shows instantaneous heart rate values, which can be somewhat unstable. The mode 2 shows the average of the last 10 beats. Por fim, or so 3 it's a manual average, controlled with the right button.

While writing the article I noticed that in the ad the store indicates that it has the PDF manual in English and Russian. I asked for the manual in English and they sent me quickly, actually in DOCX format. And so I confirmed that the excerpts that I had understood from the Chinese manual were correct.

The probe has a cord wound in the style of telephone, that stretch during use and retract to store. The probe wire is disconnectable, and uses a Mini-A USB type connector.

The beating sound can be heard on both the built-in speaker and a headset. There is a P2 jack to connect headphones or some recording equipment. On the side there is a volume button that controls the volume of the speaker or headphones, depending on what is being used.

The Doppler Fetal Cofoe is indicated for pregnancy from the 16th week, but in tests it worked with 14 weeks. Apparently it depends on the position the baby is in, among other factors. The manual has drawings giving hint of positions, according to the stage of pregnancy.

The equipment does not come with gel. The manual indicates the use of edible water or oil (at least that's what came out in the translation) as substitutes. In practice it should work with any viscous liquid, like liquid soap, alcohol gel, essencial oils, gel the aloe vera, or preferably the specific ultrasound gel that is sold in hospital supply stores. The important thing is that there should be no space between the skin and the probe, and the gel serves as a coupler.

The Doppler Fetal Cofoe features intelligent noise filtering to minimize the sounds of amniotic fluid flow, intestinal bubbling, among other quieter noises.

Final Considerations

The Doppler Fetal Cofoe low cost compared to options found in Brazil, and even more features than most of them: display com iluminação que mostra os batimentos cardíacos por minuto, opções de média de batimentos, opção de ouvir os batimentos pelo alto-falante embutido ou por fones, e possibilidade de gravar os sons diretamente da saída P2.
