The DisplayPort adapter (DP) for VGA Vention 1080p DP male and VGA female was acquired in AliExpress, VEnTIOn store Official Store. With it I can connect an old monitor, which has only VGA input on my modern graphics card, which has only DisplayPort and HDMI outputs.
Motivation and Choice
Since I started working exclusively at home due to the pandemic, I missed something that I already have for a few years at work: a second monitor. At home I have an LCD TV (the Panasonic Viera 40 ″ Smart TV - TC-40DS600B that I have already shown here) that eventually used as a second monitor and helps a lot, but nothing like a second dedicated monitor, because most of the time I want the TV to watch TV…
So I decided to connect an old 15-inch Proview LCD monitor″ who was on loan and recently returned as second monitor. It only has VGA input, there are some scratches on the poorly made transport screen, resolution of only 1024×768, but it would already break a good branch. The refresh rate is 75 Hz, even bigger than the 60 Hz of my Dell U2410, which is the main monitor and has a resolution of 1920×1200.
The problem is that my video card is a MSI Gaming GeForce RTX 2060 Super, who also showed here. She has 3 DisplayPort outputs and an HDMI output. No DVI and much less VGA.
I then went in search of a DisplayPort to VGA adapter and soon found the DisplayPort adapter (DP) for VGA Vention. In Brazil I found some generic and expensive adapters. As I was not in a hurry I chose to buy at AliExpress same, for the trust in Vention, of which I already have several other products, and I also took advantage of the promotion of 11/11. I also bought a Cabo Extensor DisplayPort DP 1.2 144 Hz 4K male to female, because the monitor's VGA cable is short and built-in. I speak of the extension cable in an upcoming article.

The DisplayPort adapter (DP) for VGA Vention came in a sealed box with the brand and photo of the product. The box came in the transport bubble envelope, then the product comes well protected. The back of the box has the specifications in English and Chinese, that I translate here:
- Wire Size: 15cm

- Connector Process: Gold plated
- Cable Outer Diameter: 5,0 mm
- Cable Shield: Tinned Copper

Installation and Testing DisplayPort adapter (DP) for VGA
The installation of the DisplayPort adapter (DP) for VGA Vention It was quiet, just plug the DP plug into the Extender Cable connected to the video card and the VGA plug on the monitor cable. The monitor was promptly detected and works well as long as resolution and frequency are manually selected. No case, it is running at 1024x 768 in 75 Hz.
The NVidia control panel mistakenly indicates that the native resolution is 1280×1024, but at this resolution it doesn't work and shows a message that the resolution is not supported. In 1024×768 the panel also allows you to choose a refresh rate of 85 Hz, but it is the same case: if selected, the monitor goes out and indicates that it does not support.
It's been great to use Proview as a second monitor. I always leave tasks that I am monitoring and following without having to switch between windows (video encoding status, terminal program outputs, backups in progress, etc.). It also helps a lot when I need to copy something from one program to another in cases where copying and pasting does not work or is not efficient.
When I need to take screenshots of the screen with OBS Studio, I leave it on the second monitor while I capture the first, and so I monitor the entire capture or live broadcast on the second monitor, this is very useful.
Por fim, when I need to present something with the Power Point, I use the TV as a third monitor. That way the main monitor gets the presentation with my notes, that only i see, the second monitor has the Google Meet so that I can see other people and get feedback, and the TV has the presentation in full screen and this is the screen that I share.
The second monitor is also useful for editing something (Worksheets, text) while other people follow through on Meet. That way you can share the work screen while watching other people on the other screen. It also prevents other people from seeing the notifications popping up on our main screen. After all, who has never seen an embarrassing situation in which the presenter received a personal message and the entire audience read through the projector?
The only negative point I have to report is that when the computer is idle and turns off the monitors or goes into standby, sometimes on the return the windows of one screen appear on the other and / or vice versa. I don't know if this is directly related to the adapter. It is something that doesn’t always happen and doesn’t follow a pattern, sometimes they are windows of the first monitor that go to the second, sometimes it's the other way around, sometimes they are inverted. It is not a big inconvenience, but it's a little more work pulling windows from one screen to the other to leave it as it was.
